What has become of the ARA Best Study Award winner Elisabeth Gager?

Excellent academic achievements not only impress on the certificate. ARA AG grants the Best Study Award to those ETIA students with the best academic performance over the two years of study.
One of them is Elisabeth Gager, alumni of the postgraduate program MSc Environmental Technology & International Affairs and winner of the ARA Best Study Award 2012: “The ARA Best Study Award was a great finale of two years of intense and exciting work. It proved that I had opted for the right track after having pursued a career in communications and switching my field of work. After graduating, it allowed me to test some career options before choosing my current path.”

Career steps since the Graduation

During her studies, Elisabeth focused on international development and renewable energy and conducted field research for her Master Thesis on the socio-economic impact of off-grid solar systems in Northern Uganda. Until this day, Africa continues to be her focus region.

After graduating from ETIA, Elisabeth joined the EU Energy Initiative Partnership Dialogue Facility in Frankfurt and Brussels supporting the work of the Secretariat of the Africa-EU Energy Partnership. Later she started working for GIZ and put focus on the development of photovoltaics and biogas projects in Ghana.

She spent a year in New York, where she continued working for GIZ, supported the start-up ecoligo, a crowd financing platform for renewable energy in emerging and developing countries, and completed a Certificate at the New York University in Leadership and Organizational Development.

In 2016, Elisabeth joined GIZ Tunisia. She is currently advising Tunisian decision-makers on policies and regulations for the development of the country’s solar energy market. She holds responsible for project activities focusing on the access to solar energy in the country’s disadvantaged regions.
